Drone Propagation

To most, the idea of propagating drones may seem counter productive, however, drones are an essential part of colony reproduction.  Without drones, queens will not be fertilized.  For insemination work, it is important to insure that there is an abundant supply of healthy mature drones from the selected stock.  One way to insure an abundant supply of drones, when you need them is to supply each selected colony with a solid frame of drone foundation.  The bees will draw out the sheet of drone foundation to allow the queen to lay her unfertilized eggs.

Only a strong healthy colony will support such intensive drone production, which should not be a concern as only the strongest and healthiest colonies should be used for breeding purposes.
