This innovative instrument met my objectives and features several technological advancements designed with the Microbreeder in mind.

- The Latshaw Micro Instrument utilizes a completely new syringe design. The newly designed Latshaw Micro Syringe is a large capacity syringe that homogenizes the honey bee semen inside the syringe. This syringe is the first of its kind to offer breeders a feasible option for homogenizing honey bee semen in an effort to enhance and conserve genetic diversity within honey bee populations. In addition, the Latshaw Micro Syringe can be used to store and ship tubes of semen.

process. After honey bee semen was collected using the Latshaw Micro
Syringe, one microliter of dye was then drawn into the syringe. Within
9.5 hours, the semen was well mixed. In addition to providing a
feasible method for Microbreeders to utilize homogenized semen in their
breeding programs, Microbreeders can also ship and receive semen. The
Latshaw Micro Syringe is designed to accept 100 microliter capillary tubes.
Simply remove the glass tip to either fill a capilary tube for shipping or
to draw a capillary tube of shipped honey bee semen into the syringe for
use. This completely new and innovative syringe offers many advantages
to the Microbreeder.
